Hottest New EVs at the 2023 Chicago Auto Show

The direction of the automotive world is clear, as momentum continues building for the EV (electric vehicle) industry. President Joe Biden’s Made-in-America plan involves a charging network of 500,000 stations in communities and on our highways by 2030. Additionally, Elon Musk will make 7,500 Tesla Superchargers available to all EVs and double their US network by 2024. Simply put, EVs ARE the future.

This year welcomes the 115th edition of the Chicago Auto Show. As usual, McCormick Place houses a tremendous variety of domestic and imported cars, SUVs, pickups and concepts. As the presence of EVs continues growing, here’s a list of the hottest new standouts at this year’s show:

2023 Cadillac Lyriq SUV

With an estimated 300-plus mile range in its rear wheel and all wheel drive configurations, the Lyriq starts at $58,590. I took a test ride and it handles wonderfully. The interior is very nice, with impressive instrumentation and screen technology.

2024 Chevy Blazer

This is a sharp looking mid-sized SUV starting at $44,995, with up to 320 miles for the RS model. You’ll get 0-60 mph in under 4 ticks with the SS. It’s available this summer.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado

With an estimated 400 mile range, 754 hp, 785 lb-ft torque, Chevy’s first ever all electric pickup intends to “charge up your imagination”. A new body framework allows for the 24-module Ultium battery pack. Variants range from the work truck to high-end RST. Estimated MSRP starts at $39,900, with reservations available now. It’s truckin’ your way this fall.

Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept

Evoking the legendary 1968 Charger, illuminated badging on the front and tail represents the electrified future of Dodge. This, dare I say, muscle car has an industry first EV exhaust system with a performance tone like the SRT Hellcat!

2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup

Who would have imagined the old gas-guzzling monster of the 90s and 00s would re-emerge as an electric vehicle. The new Hummer EV pickup (and SUV) are the world’s first all-electric supertrucks, set to dominate the off-road landscape. It’s got full under body armor, 4-wheel steer and 35″ Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires! GM estimated range is 350 miles with the pickup, 300 for the SUV. Production begins this year with MSRP at roughly $110,000. Although reservations are full, GMC expects them to reopen.

2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6

Note the slippery design of this car, which accounts for the elevated EPA range of 361 miles. Plus, it just looks cool! Limited availability is early this year with expected prices starting at around $44,000.

2023 Ram Revolution Concept

Here’s a peak into the future for the next generation of Ram pickups. The new STLA body-on-frame architecture allows more battery space, as the wheelbase expands and cabin area increases for 3-row seating. There’s a split tailgate, and a pass-thru storage tunnel for hauling cargo up to 18’ long such as 2x4s or molding. This Ram Track Rail system runs from the trunk bed, along the cabin floor, into the frunk. Let’s hope that makes it into production. I think it’s a game-changer.
