This Fall the accessories are striking and one-of-a kind, to add an edge to pastels, clean lines and dramatic appeal of the season’s apparel. Here’s my report on the Fall shoe, jewelry and other accessory trends.
Over the Knee Boot
Knee high boots work with minis and skinny jeans or pencil pant, and thigh-high socks make the tall boots look even taller. I think this Fall it’s all in the details – the buckles, the zipper, the heel, the play of fabrics (snakeskin and suede is an interesting combo) or consistency of leather. Experiment with color – try the 2 favorites for Fall – wine color and gray.
Ankle Bootie
This Fall favorite will probably come back year after year. This season, it seems to take the classical shape with chunky or stacked heel. Conical heel and wedge are other popular alternatives for Fall.
Or, if you want to make a statement, try this one:
Athletic Wave
I’ve mentioned the athletic trend for apparel and of course there is a parallel in accessories. It’s a sporty vibe, elevated with a fashion edge. Try a sneaker wedge with fringe or even a leather detail.
Ornate Flats
Flats have always been a staple but this Fall designers are showing a lot of gem-stoned and studded flats.
Suede
This fabric is such a stand-out for Fall 2014, not only in boots but also in bags and other accessories, including necklaces, headbands and wristbands. This is a very feminine trend that goes beautifully with artful prints and cozy sweaters of the season.
Dramatic Earrings
This season the ear accessories go above and beyond the traditional with long, dramatic, almost necklace-like stunning pieces. Many are clip-on earrings, with twisting snakes, dangles and other architectural details. It’s OK to use on one ear only – the statement is that much bigger.
Colored Stones
The striking colors of Fall 2014 are transcending into the accessories world. One of the best ways to follow this trend is using colorful stones. Allison Goodman, Director of Merchandising at ArtCarved, suggests adding a little sparkle to your engagement rings by adding a colored stone.
“One of the most popular ways to guarantee your engagement ring stands out from the rest is by complimenting your setting with a colorful stone. Incorporating your favorite color diamond, birthstone or gem is an easy way to add extra meaning and personality to your ring. However, you don’t necessarily have to stray from a classic white diamond all together to incorporate color. You can easily pair a classic engagement ring with a gem in a diamond studded halo or band to add a pop of color to accent the center diamond.”
Stackable rings
The stackable trend is fresh from summer. Allison Goodman of ArtCarved recommends stackables in rose and yellow gold – an “easy way to mix, match, layer and build to your liking in a variety of colors and styles”. The new 2014 ArtCarved Collection actually features blue sapphires, which provide an elegant, yet stylish look with a subtle accent of color.
Western Vibe
The new frontier is back with suede pants, fringe, prairie skirts and turquoise embellishments. That’s why I think both turquoise and fringe will be big this Fall.
