For the most part, swimwear trends reflect some of the larger trends of the spring/summer fashion. However, there are a few standouts. Of course, your choices will vary with age, size and occasion, but try one of these hot swimwear trends to get a little more fashionable.
Statement Straps
One of the hottest trends in swimwear this season is statement straps. Designers such as Mara Hoffman, Movimento, Lisa Blue, Lenny and White Sands are all creating intricate designs that incorporate detailed, strong statement straps far above the traditional straps and ties on yesterday’s bikini. Creating new, functional bikinis and swimwear designs is all in the fabric, and plastic fabrics such as nylon, spandex and elastane all help to create these strappy creations that don’t end up sagging and drooping after your day at the beach. Thanks to plastic fabrics’ elasticity and ability to retain its shape, trendy, strappy suits stay in place all day, so you can enjoy the surf, sun and sand worry free.
Bold Colors
Bright colors will go beautifully with any day on the beach. This summer, navy continues to be strong, as well as forest green. “Driving the color trend in 2012 is the Nautical theme,” adds Cyla Weiner, a veteran fashion industry expert and owner of Sylene of Washington (www.SyleneDC.com). “There is a lot of red, white, and blue in combo as well as singularly.”, she notes.
Mis-matched prints
From flowers to polka dots, stripes to watercolors, swimsuits reflect the vibrant palette of 2012 spring/summer fashion. While polka dots continue to be a strong print trend for summer 2012, it is the pairing of prints that is so hot this season. “You can match either a print top with a solid bottom or vice versa,” says Cyla. The print trends virtually reflect those in the overall fashion movement for Spring/Summer 2012. “Prints range from floral to sophisticated subdued shades this year,” adds Cyla.
Buckles and Rings
From an added element perspective, buckles in the swimsuit fabric or metal finishes are strong elements being featured in the summer suits this year. “Eres, Maryan Mehlhorn and Karla Colletto offer great suits with this attention to detail this season,” stated Cyla.
