This season has a fun mix of old and new, edgy and ladylike, and I am absolutely loving these Fall 2013 Shoe & Accessory Trends.
Shoes
Kitten Heals
A nod to the 50s and 60s also seen in full skirts and wide-leg pants, kitten heals may even topple the popular platform pumps. Easier to wear and more feminine looking, they get my vote. Coming in a variety of colors, prints look especially stunning – such as the leopard print seen on the kitten heals from Clarks.
Wedge Sneakers
This trend is continuing through the summer. Here’s what Erin Micklow, a wardrobe stylist and image consultant has to say about it:
Give yourself a lift for the illusion of longer legs while staying casual this fall with a pair of wedge sneakers. These fun and funky shoes will keep you comfortable and in style while you motor around the city.
Flat with a Pointy Toe
Flats are essential for anyone on the go, especially those of us chasing little kids on the playground. This fall, look for a pointy toe, more ladylike and dressy flat in the colors of the season – cobalt, black & white, leopard or snakeskin.
Bootie
How can you not love the bootie? It’s back for Fall, and though you will yet again see a lot of peep-toe styles, I’m more excited by the sleek-heeled, animal print kind. Or the geometric variety that goes well on so many accessories this season.
Tall Boot/Riding Boot
I’m so happy to see the tall boot trend is sticking around for Fall 2013. What a great way to elongate your leg and make you look instantly stylish – whether with skinny jeans or a mini! This Fall look for accessorized tall boot – zippers, buttons, buckles, oh my! Runways for Fall featured over-the-knee sky-high boot (Balmain, Altuzarra, for example) but I would stick with the knee-length.
Jewelry
Stackable Jewelry
This is one of the trendiest accessories for fall. Callie Smith, Director of Jewelry for Gemvara, suggests joining the pieces to bring the look to a new level:
pairing dainty necklaces of different chain lengths to create the perfect pendant party while stacking three rings with different metals to make a new type of cocktail ring. A word of caution – be careful when using very large baubles – sometimes large necklaces are best on their own.
Mix & Match your Metals
Mixing and matching accessories can be an art form but Callie Smith of Gemvara says the old matchy-matchy rules no longer apply.
I especially love how a hint of rose gold among white gold pieces adds some flair. Mixing metals, whether in a single two-tone piece like a gold bauble among a handful of silver, creates a non-traditional look that will have you shining from all angles. Be careful not to overdo it on one color.
My personal favorite was the styling of the Oscar De La Renta campaign with a mix of gold chains, gems and pearls.
Word Jewelry
The beautiful thing about word jewelry – necklaces in particular – is that it is not only a reflection of your style but also your wit. You can be funny, sweet, sarcastic and more.
Emerald
The pantone color for 2013, emerald jewelry is very on-trend for Fall. It’s soothing, beautiful and stylish and is incorporated in earrings, necklaces and more this season.
Pearls
Quite a few designers have recently featured pearls – from Alexander McQueen to Thakoon to Christian Dior – and not just in simple necklaces. Pearls appeared in bracelets, rings, shoes, mixed with metals. These are not ladylike pearls, but rather fun and funky.
Bags
Clutch Bags
“Who says fall has to be all about dark, dreary colors?”, asks Erin Micklow (@Erin_Micklow).
Make your darks pop with a colorful clutch bag! They’re super chic, and uber fashionable in any occasion. So, if you can get through your day without some of the junk from your giant tote bags, lighten your load with a wild clutch!
Mini-bag with a Chain strap
The style originally associated with Chanel bags, is seen on many this Fall – it’s elegant, expensive looking and easy to carry on your shoulder or in your hands as a clutch bag. Kenneth Cole and Michael Kors had some of my favorites.
Large Carry-All
Moms would easily jump on this trend. This is a perfect bag for anyone who brings their entire lives along for the day. Spacious inside and luxurious outside, these carryalls will be a trendy, though very expensive, bag trend for Fall.
I love rose gold! I’ve been wanting to get some pieces to add to my own collection. Love the stacked bracelets!
