Product Faves: Digital Tire Gauge and Air Compressor

One of my biggest fears on the road is getting a flat tire. With kids in tow, it’s more than just an inconvenience. Make sure you check your tires regularly, especially during changes of season, because cold and hot weather alter the tire pressure levels! For each passing month, you lose 1 PSI. For every ten degree Farenheit change in weather you lose or gain 1 PSI.

Here are 2 products to maintain accurate air pressure in your tires. Check your tire pressure cold, meaning before you start driving. Morning is the perfect time to do it. We prefer the digital tire pressure gauge, since the readings are easier to read – the number is displayed on the screen and you can see if it matches the required PSI, which is on the sidewall of your tire or on a label attached to the door jamb. I am not recommending a specific brand. We used Napa digital tire pressure gauge but any digital gauge will do. Sears.com has a great variety.

Having an air compressor at home is handy to add air to under-inflated tires. You will save time and money at the gas station, and you can hook the unit up to additional tools for other uses. Plus, many times the air pump is broken at the gas stations. There are many available, but we used the Campbell Hausfeld brand. On a final note, make sure you check the air in your spare tire.
